Congenital Clinical Nurse Consultant

About the Role
The Congenital CNC at The Royal Melbourne Hospital plays a key role in coordinating and supporting the care of patients with congenital heart disease across inpatient, outpatient, and multidisciplinary settings. The role involves providing clinical expertise, patient education, care planning, and liaison between patients, families, and the broader healthcare team to ensure safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred care. The CNC also contributes to service improvement, staff education, and continuity of care throughout the patient journey.
The Cardiology Department includes the Coronary Care and Step-down Unit, Cardiology Ward, the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories, a Cardiology Day procedure ward, non-invasive and diagnostic services as well as Specialty and General Cardiology Outpatient Department.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide expert guidance and act as a resource nurse to other health care professionals such as nurses and junior medical staff on management of complex patient needs based on best clinical practice
- To coordinate the weekly cardiac congenital clinic, monthly cardiac pregnancy clinic and monthly new patient congenital clinic including coordinating test/procedures required before the clinic and, coordination of the clinic on the day.
- To co-lead the cardiac congenital transition clinic at Royal Children’s Hospital 4 times per year to enable the seamless transition of paediatric patients from paediatric to adult care
- Undertake post-clinic follow-up including following up test results and implementing plans after discussions with medical team
About You
- Nursing registration with AHRPA - registration as a registered nurse
- Post graduate certificate/Diploma in acute cardiac care/critical care
- Recent acute cardiac/critical clinical care of at least 3 years
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills at all levels
