About the Role
We are seeking a Carer Peer Support Worker to play a key role in supporting carers and family members of people accessing our Post Discharge Mental Health Support Programs, specifically within the Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement (HOPE) Program.
Drawing on your own lived experience of caring for someone with mental ill health, you will provide emotional support, information, and connections to help carers navigate the challenges of supporting a loved one through crisis and recovery.
In this role you will:
- Provide one-to-one emotional and practical support to carers via face-to-face, telephone, or video contact
- Help carers identify their own needs and focus on wellbeing
- Facilitate linkages to appropriate supports and community resources
- Share lived experience in ways that empower and inspire hope
- Work collaboratively with clinical and lived experience colleagues across RMH
- Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality and ethical standards
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Lived experience as a carer for someone with mental ill health who has accessed public mental health services
- Understanding of the challenges facing carers and families in mental health settings
- The ability to draw on your lived experience to bring hope and empowerment to others
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Confidence to work independently while maintaining connection and supervision
