Job Description: 

SHIELD Research Fellow

 

VICNISS (Victorian healthcare-associated infection surveillance) is a leading Australian organisation based at Melbourne Health which is responsible for infection surveillance, prevention and control, aiming to optimise infection prevention and control practice in order to deliver the safest quality of care in acute and aged care sectors. The investigator team for the SHIELD project includes leaders from VICNISS coordinating centre, working in collaboration with infection prevention experts from other universities and hospitals.

 

Your new role:  

The role of research fellow will involve responsibilities related to the development, implementation and evaluation of a point prevalence survey (PPS) for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) undertaken in Victorian hospitals, Specifically the role includes;

 

  • Development of surveys and interview question content
  • Coordinating qualitative stakeholder interviews with a variety of consumers, including patients who have had an HAI,
  • Liaising with key stakeholders including investigator teams responsible for leading SHIELD projects
  • Recruitment of pilot and rollout hospitals for the PPS
  • Creation of and analyses of survey and point prevalence survey data
  • Writing reports and preparation of peer-reviewed publications

 

About you: 

 

  • You have completed an Honours or Masters (or above) degree in epidemiology, science, pharmacy, or another relevant discipline, e.g. public health, or biomedicine.
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to be professional and relate effectively with a range of people across all levels of the organisation.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to expertly apply research methodologies and quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis.
  • You have a demonstrated track record in independent and team-based research.
  • You have a demonstrated track record in research management roles.
  • You have experience in the supervision or co-supervision and mentoring of staff where appropriate.
  • You may also have experience in qualitative research methods and a knowledge about infection prevention and control in the Australian hospital context
