Research Nurse (Clinical Trial Study Coordinator)

The Victorian Infectious Diseases Service (VIDS), as part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, provides inpatient and outpatient services for all infectious diseases, including management of fungal infections, HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, travel and tropical diseases, tuberculosis, and parasitic infections. It has a strong focus on links with public health and optimisation of antibiotic use. It also has a strong history of research in infectious diseases and in conducting pharmaceutical-company sponsored clinical trials.

 

Currently there exists a part time position, at 0.4 EFT, for a Research Nurse to assist in the running of clinical trials and clinical research projects. The position is for 12 months, renewable subject to availability of research funding.

 

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024–2028 Research Nurse Level 2 (YU13) or Level 3 (YX13) depending on clinical and research experiences.

 

Your role will involve:

The primary responsibility of the Research Nurse is to coordinate and facilitates various pharmaceutical-company sponsored clinical trials and clinical research projects, in infectious diseases being conducted by The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s Victorian Infectious Diseases Service. The Research Nurse will perform patient assessment, recruitment, sample and data collection and data management strictly in accordance with research protocols and maintaining confidentiality. The Research nurse will work collaboratively with team members, liaises with clinical trial sponsors to deliver professional services ensuring trial success, and assists in ethics and research governance submissions and reporting. Other duties will be as directed.

 

About you:

  • Formal Qualifications: Division 1 registered nurse with a current AHPRA registration.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Division 1 Registered Nurse.
  • Experienced in tissue/blood sample collections and processing, and data collections and management.
  • Experienced in disseminating injections to patients.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team, while working independently.
  • A thorough understanding of issues concerning patient confidentiality in infectious diseases.
  • Flexibility in working hours.
  • Certification in Good Clinical Practice.
  • Familiar with electronic medical records usages.
