The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) part of the Parkville Precinct and is one of Australia's leading public hospitals, providing a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services, as well as rehabilitation, aged care, specialist clinics and community programs.
SUMITT are offering a two-year secondment to clinicians who are ready to develop the skills to become the next leaders within RMH Mental Health Services (RMH-MHS). We are a multidisciplinary team who work as part of the broader Mental Health Services and in partnership with the RMH Addiction Medicine Services. Our aim is to provide specialist support to people who have co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
About SUMITT:
The Dual Diagnosis Clinician position within SUMITT is an exciting career development opportunity to support established clinicians to develop the skills required to apply for Senior or Team Leader-level roles.
Our role is a combination of:
- short-term brief interventions that assist people to minimise harm from the interaction of mental health and substance use issues
- Long-term interventions to provide treatment to those who have particularly complex needs
- Consultations to RMH clinicians to support them to provide care to people with co-occurring issues, and education to RMH clinicians
Our work takes us across a variety of settings including:
- Mental Health Service clinics
- The Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Hub attached to the RMH Emergency Department, and assertive outreach into the community

About the role:
- Enhance RMH-MHS capacity to provide a multidisciplinary approach to working with people who have co-occurring mental health and substance use issues
- Deliver high-quality care for people treated by RMH-MHS who use substances
- We will support you to develop and implement division-wide initiatives that improve RMH Mental Health Service capacity to work with people who present with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues
- Provide you opportunities to develop the skills necessary to become Senior Clinicians or Team Leaders
About you:
Formal Qualifications
- This is a multidisciplinary role open to Grade 2 Psychologist (Clinical, Forensic, or Neuropsychology), Social Worker, Occupational Therapist (must hold relevant degree, registration and/or membership as per attached Position Description)
Essential
- Excellent skills in assessment, clinical reasoning, and treatment planning
- Willing and able to work across diverse settings and teams
