Unit Description:
The Cardiology Department at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is a major tertiary and quaternary referral centre. The Department provides large adult congenital cardiac service and includes a combined congenital cardiac pregnancy service with the Royal Women's Hospital. It has national and international recognition as a leading clinical and research Arrhythmia centre. The Department also has major strengths in interventional coronary, structural and congenital cardiology and cardiac genetics. It provides the state-wide complex lead extraction service. The Department is affiliated with the University of Melbourne with major teaching and research priorities. It works closely with the large cardiac surgery unit which has major interests in arterial grafting, off-pump bypass, valve repair, aortic and adult congenital surgery.
About the role:
This pivotal position involves an intensive clinical program focused on all aspects related to percutaneus coronary interventions (PCI). This includes complex high-risk indicated procedures (CHIP-PCI), chronic total occlusion (CTO) and PCI for acute STEMI and the use of adjunctive technologies including FFR, rotational arthrectomy, coronary intravascular lithotripsy, IVUS and OCT. The position also encompasses exposure to structural congenital and non-congenital interventions, including transcatheter aortic replacement, percutaneous mitral valve repair, PFO, ASD, and PDA closure and LAA occlusion. Fellows participate in the after-hours roster for urgent PCIs. The program also provides opportunities to participate in teaching and clinical research projects. Over the 12 months of the program, fellows can expect to perform at least 250 interventional procedures.
About You:
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (for international Medical Graduates)
- MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
- Successful completion of FRACP Basic Training including written and clinical examinations (FRACP Part 1)
- Completion of 3 years Cardiology Advanced Trainee
