Australian and New Zealand Paired Kidney Exchange (ANZKX) Coordinator

  • Part Time, 3-year fixed term role
  • An exciting opportunity to join our progressive and supportive ANZKX program in an ongoing capacity.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team, playing an integral role in facilitating live kidney donation throughout Australia and New Zealand

The Royal Melbourne Hospital has administered the Australian and New Zealand Paired Kidney Exchange (ANZKX) program since 2017. The program aims to improve the number of live kidney transplants that can be performed in Australia and New Zealand, by identifying biologically incompatible donor–recipient pairs and matching them with other incompatible donor–recipient pairs. The ANZKX program is closely aligned with the Department of Nephrology Transplant team, providing care to over 1800 patients.

 Your role:

  • Be responsible for the operation and delivery of the ANZKX program
  • Liaise with local and national transplant centres to coordinate and ensure appropriate registration of donors and recipients.
  • Oversee and coordinate organ transport during paired kidney donation surgeries. 
  • Provide clinical leadership & consultancy for the ANZKX Program to nursing, and other health care professionals.
  • Use excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with patients, families and carers, as well as a large number of external stake holders involved in the transportation of kidneys both nationally and internationally.

About you:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Tertiary qualification in Nursing, with a minimum of 5 years nursing experience. A post graduate qualification in Nephrology Nursing is desirable.
  • Experience coordinating or caring for live donor renal transplants.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, including ability to analyse issues, co-ordinate tasks, set priorities and work to timelines in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills appropriate to deal with a wide range of complex and sensitive issues.
