About the role

 

As part of our multidisciplinary Allied Health team, you will join an experienced in-house Interpreter Service providing responsive interpreter and translation services across The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Working in inpatient, emergency and outpatient settings, you will help patients, families and clinicians communicate effectively, supporting safe, inclusive and person-centred care throughout the patient journey.

 

Our team of 21, including interpreters, a booking clerk and the Manager, works collaboratively to deliver high-quality language services across all RMH sites, making a meaningful difference to the care and experience of our diverse community.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Provide accurate, timely and ethical interpreting services in accordance with professional standards and organisational policies.
  • Support effective communication between patients, families and clinicians to enable safe, person-centred care.
  • Build collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to culturally responsive service delivery.
  • Participate in quality improvement, service planning and other initiatives that enhance interpreter and translation services.

 

About You

 

  • Current NAATI Interpreter and Translator certification in Arabic, with a commitment to supporting safe, timely and person-centred care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with patients, consumers, carers, families and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Previous interpreting experience in a healthcare setting, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and respond effectively in emergent situations.
