About the role

As an Admissions Clerk, you will often be the first point of contact for patients and their carers at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, providing a professional, caring and customer-focused service.

 

You will join the 3 East Admission and Pre-admission Clinic, supporting the coordination of a large and varied patient cohort across the 23-hour Unit, Operating Suites, 3 West Day Procedure Unit, Planned Surgery Booking Office and Bed Assignment, Access & Flow.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Welcome patients and carers, providing a caring and professional first point of contact.
  • Coordinate admissions efficiently, escalating issues that may impact patient flow.
  • Respond to patient and carer enquiries professionally across phone, face-to-face and electronic channels.
  • Coordinate Pre-admission Clinic visits to support smooth and timely patient flow.
  • Collaborate with Perioperative Services and RMH teams to support efficient patient care.
  • Work safely within scope, contribute to a positive team culture and participate in ongoing learning.

 

About You

You are a calm, friendly and patient-focused professional who takes pride in providing a positive experience for patients and carers. You will bring:

 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a respectful approach to all stakeholders.
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate information and databases.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively in a busy team environment.
  • Previous healthcare experience is desirable but not essential.
  • A commitment to safe, inclusive and patient-centred care.
