Addiction Medicine and Hospital in the Home – Registrar - Unaccredited

This is a 12-month Part Time, Fixed Term position at 83 HPF commencing 01 February 2027 and ending 06 February 2028.

The successful candidate will work 41.5 Hours per week across both Addiction Medicine and RMH@Home Services.

We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

Units Description:

This position collaboratively supports the Addiction Medicine service and RMH@Home Acute unit delivering Hospital-in-the-Home services.

The addiction medicine service provides consultation/liaison support to the emergency department and inpatient units at RMH, NWMH, has a weekly outpatient clinic, and an outreach service to the CBD (in partnership with cohealth). In addition to the registrar, the addiction medicine team consists of nursing staff, a nurse practitioner, addiction medicine physicians, and a psychiatrist.

RMH@Home Acute is multidisciplinary service staffed by physicians and junior doctors from various specialties – General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Emergency Medicine. The team works with specialist nursing, pharmacy and allied health staff to deliver acute inpatient care in the home, with an emphasis on community outreach and virtual modalities such as telehealth and remote patient monitoring.

About the role:

The Addiction Medicine Service at Royal Melbourne Hospital provides support to people with drug and alcohol and behavioural addictions at Royal Melbourne Hospital, including inpatients, outpatients, the emergency department, an ED Hub, and outreach in the CBD area.

The registrar role for Hospital-in-the-Home would care for patients in the community across a variety of issues, with the overarching aim of providing hospital-level assessment and treatments for patients in the home. It involves assessment of ward patients for HITH suitability and supporting junior doctors in HITH care under the supervision of consultant physicians.

This role is accredited for advanced trainees in FRACP in Addiction Medicine and General Medicine.

• Tuesday – RMH@Home
• Wednesday – Am RMH@Home
• Thursday – Addiction Medicine
• Friday – Addiction Medicine

About You:

• Current General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
• Appropriate tertiary health qualifications – MBBS or equivalent
• An eligible FRACP trainee wishing to complete chapter of Addiction Medicine and/or General Medicine training
• Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
• A strong commitment to high-quality care
• The ability to work in a diverse multidisciplinary team
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Completed Opioid pharmacotherapy training course prior to starting work
• Have a valid Victorian driver licence and can drive
• Able to work in flexible manner across two departments (HITH and Addiction Medicine)
