Your Opportunity:
The Royal Melbourne Hospital offers a limited number of General Surgery Registrar (Pre-SET Unaccredited)/HMO positions to doctors who are seeking to gain experience as a non-accredited registrar within General Surgery. These positions provide valuable surgical experience and patient management opportunities, while also allowing candidates opportunity to explore other surgical specialties in a HMO position.
The Department of General Surgical Specialties has an established track record for training and preparing junior doctors for successful application and a career in General Surgery. This position may also be valuable for junior doctors considering future careers in Radiology, Critical Care and Anaesthetics, providing context and experience in managing patients across a broad range of acute surgical and trauma presentations.
Over six months, successful applicants will have the opportunity to rotate through Trauma and Emergency General Surgery rosters, and opportunity to cover general surgical sub-specialty leave. All of our offers of employment will be 12 months in duration - 6 months in surgical HMO rotations and 6 months in Unaccredited Registrar rotations.
About You:
- Current Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- MBBS or equivalent tertiary qualifications
- Minimum 2 years post graduate experience
- Demonstrated interest in General Surgery, Radiology or Critical Care specialties
- Demonstrated preparation for application to Training Programs (including one or more of the following)
- Application for or completion of GSSE
- Involvement in research, teaching and or medical education
- Higher degrees applicable to training applications
- Completion of skills courses (eg. RACS courses)
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Well-developed communication and presentation skills.
