Job Description: 

Senior Carer Peer Practitioner Level 4 - Open Dialogue Community Mental Health
*Exciting new opportunity piloting the Open Dialogue approach

 

• Use lived experience as a carer supporting an adult with mental ill-health, AOD or psychological distress

• An ongoing full-time role located in Carlton

• Be a part of a team delivering support that is social network focussed and enables supported decision making

This role is a key member of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Services (RMH MHS) Inner Melbourne Community Mental Health Team; a new team providing mental health, treatment, care, and support in the City of Melbourne area (Carlton, North Melbourne, CBD).  The team will provide an innovative integrated Open Dialogue Model of Care as part of a translational research project under the auspices of the Victorian Collaborative Centre of Mental Health and Wellbeing.  The team will include both clinical and lived and living experiences peer support workforce with a focus on participation of the consumers support network from the beginning of their engagement with the team. 

Your new role:

  • Co-facilitate Open Dialogue network meetings with the consumer and their support networks to understand their experience, needs and collaboratively develop a treatment plan 
  • Respond to people in crisis as well as provide support to family, carers supporters and kin\
  • Supervise and mentor junior LE Carer peer practitioners
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, lived experience leads, external service providers, including our academic partners who will be leading an evaluation research project for the pilot 

 

About you:

  • Significant personal carer lived experience of supporting an adult with mental ill health, AOD or psychological distress.
  • At least two years in a Carer lived experience role
  • A willingness to share your caring experience within network meetings through reflections with your co-facilitator
  • Experience mentoring other support workers
  • An understanding of the policies and procedures associated with the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, particularly related to carer rights
