The Mental Health Intensive Care Area Response (MHICAR) model is a first across Victoria, providing access to additional resources to complement the existing IPU team's work to recognise and address deteriorations in young people. The IPU team focuses on early response engagement with young people who may require increased assessment and care planning, and sets clinical standards for the use of restrictive interventions such as seclusion or physical restraint.

Orygen Specialist Program (OSP) provides specialist mental health services, focusing on early intervention for young people aged 15 to 25 with severe and complex mental illness. Our Inpatient Unit (IPU) is located in Footscray on the Western Hospital site. The IPU includes a 16 bed low dependency area and a further three ICA - Intensive Care Area beds, as well as three Youth Justice ICA beds (ICAEAST) - for targeted specialised service delivery for youth with complex mental health and psychosocial needs.
Orygen provides comprehensive mental health services, including inpatient care, to young people across various settings. This position is based at our Orygen Mental Health Inpatient Unit, providing specialized mental health care to youth in a supportive, therapeutic environment.
About You:
- Comprehensive clinical expertise to initiate and lead evidence-based nursing practice in the care delivery to young people with complex mental health needs.
- Experience in the areas of Solution Focussed Therapy, Sensory Modulation, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or subject areas relevant to inpatient setting is desirable.
- Leadership experience, including provision of consultation, supervision, and education to nurses and overall team.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are highly encouraged to apply.
