SNOW Centre Clinical Informatics Data Engineer

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) in partnership with the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) has recently established the SNOW Centre for Immune Health. The Snow Centre for Immune Health has a global mission to improve the lives of people with immune diseases, using a new approach to immune health. The centre will bring together leading Australian and international researchers with a shared mission to transform how we research and treat the immune system. Our goal is to accelerate discoveries into the underlying features and markers of immune health, to identify disease causes early and target appropriate treatment. The Centre has been established in partnership with the Snow Medical Research Foundation.

This position is for a Clinical Informatics Data Engineer to establish clinical data collection for the SNOW Centre from RMH clinical and administrative systems. This position will enable coded, deidentified data transmission to BioGrid to support the establishment of a secure, deidentified research data repository that will enable data linkage with scientific investigations at WEHI. The data engineer will report to the Director, Clinical Informatics Centre, playing a key role in the establishment of the SNOW Centre over the next 3 years, with a particular focus on supporting collaborations with the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and BioGrid. 

 

You will:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to assist with SNOW project development.
  • Devise and implement methods to securely and accurately share datasets with external research partners, particularly BioGrid, with particular attention to privacy, ethics and good governance.
  • Collaborate with clinician researchers to develop a data strategy to answer research questions.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures for the SNOW centre.
  • Complete build in EPIC for the SNOW Centre participants as required.

 

About you:

  • A Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, such as computer science, data analytics, statistics, or a MPhil.

  • Three years’ experience working in a data analyst/engineer role or equivalent.

  • Experience working in a tertiary hospital environment and/or healthcare applications.

  • Strong analytical and innovative problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail and demonstrated ability to use data to inform process and strategy.

  • Intermediate knowledge of relevant software and programming languages, such as: MS SQL, Microsoft Excel; R/Python.

  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases used in EMR systems.
