Job Description: 

Manual Handling Coordinator
 

  • Lead the development of our Manual Handling Program
  • Coach and support Leaders, Manual Handling Champions, HSR’s and staff in performing safe manual handling practice.
  • Salary Range: $115,000.00 to $130,000.00 depending on experience

 

Are you passionate about workplace safety and skilled in promoting best practices in patient manual handling? The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) is seeking a Manual Handling Coordinator to join our team to lead and support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a Manual Handling Program.

 

About the Role

As the Manual Handling Coordinator, you will play a critical role in the review and management of hazardous manual handling risks to protect our staff and patients. Working with the Manager of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), you will work collaboratively across RMH to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and promote a culture of safety. Your focus will be on patient manual handling, equipment, and empowering staff through training, coaching, and expert guidance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Coordination: Develop, maintain, and lead the RMH Manual Handling Program, ensuring alignment with best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Training and Coaching: Deliver manual handling training for staff, champion trainers, and leaders. Provide coaching to support safe manual handling practices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to investigate incidents, conduct risk assessments, and drive equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Risk Reduction: Offer specialist advice to eliminate or control hazardous manual handling risks so far as reasonably practicable.
  • Data and Reporting: Monitor and report on manual handling incident trends, training outcomes, and program activities. Present findings to relevant committees, including the Manual Handling Committee and local OHS Committees.

About You

  • Understanding of hazardous manual handling risks and control measures, particularly in a healthcare setting.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs to diverse groups.
  • The ability to influence to foster a culture of safety and collaboration.
  • An analytical mindset to interpret incident trends and recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Relevant qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Nursing or Allied Health related field.
