Job Description: 

Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon –Trauma – Fractional/Ongoing hours.

The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

Unit Description:

The RMH Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Unit has 16 attending Plastic Surgeons, 2 International Fellows, 3 local Accredited Registrars, 3 local Unaccredited Registrar and 6 Residents. The Unit specialises in microsurgical reconstruction for breast, head & neck cancer and lower limb trauma. The Unit also manages a large number of general plastic surgery cases, including elective and post-traumatic hand surgery, bony facial trauma, brachial plexus injuries, melanoma and provides a broad reconstructive service to all specialties.
The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is looking for a qualified Plastics & Reconstruction Microsurgeon to join our team to optimise the delivery and efficiency of Emergency Plastics Surgery services through in in hour list

About the role:

  • Demonstrate and commit to evidence-based patient focused clinical practice, including disease management strategies, clinical protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery Unit and the Royal Melbourne Hospital clinical and administrative audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in the Australian Council of Healthcare Service Standards Accreditation and EQuIP programs.
  • Contribute to hospital and health service strategic plans in accordance with divisional and hospital programs and implement these strategies.
  • Respond promptly and appropriate to adverse events, patient and carer complaints, Freedom of Information requests and medicolegal inquiries. 
  • Ensure quality and clinical standards are achieved and maintained at a high level.
  • Manage the waiting list to the best patient outcomes within available resources.

About you:

  • Registration with the Medical Board of Victoria (AHPRA).
  • MBBS
  • Fellow Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) - Plastic Surgery
  • Completed specialist training in accredited Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery program including exit exams.
  • Prior experience in Breast microsurgery (post-Fellowship sub-specialty breast microsurgery training or clinical practice).
