Senior Consumer Peer Support Worker

- Be a part of a Lived Experience team that promotes self-determination and a trauma informed approach to supporting consumers using this service.
- Use your lived experience of mental health, alcohol and other drug challenges or service use to support others experiencing similar challenges.
- We have 2 x part-time roles, each 3 days per week – possible weekend work included in future.
Our Emergency Department (ED) Hub is at the forefront of innovative mental health and addiction treatment. We provide holistic support to individuals in need, and we value the contributions of peer support workers in our team. We are looking for 2 new team members for the Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health & AOD HUB who are dedicated to a culturally safe, trauma-informed practice within mental health services. The team include both clinical and lived and living experience staff with a focus on inclusivity of consumers and their individual support needs.
Your new role:
As a Senior Peer Support Worker you will play a crucial role within the ED Hub. Drawing from your personal experience of recovery and mental health services, providing unique and person-cantered support. Your responsibilities will include supporting consumers while in the Hub, post-discharge follow-up, facilitating recovery-focused groups, and connecting individuals with RMH peer-led groups and our Safe Haven. You'll also collaborate closely with clinical staff from the ED, Hub and Emergency Mental Health Team, offering a perspective on recovery that differs from traditional clinical approaches.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to provide innovative and person-centred support to individuals in the ED Hub.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Level 2 Peer Support Workers within the ED Hub.
About you:
- You have at least 2+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Your background includes specialised mental health and AOD experience.
- You are passionate about supporting individuals on their journey to recovery.
- You are an effective communicator with mentoring skills.
- Ability to work across weekends
- Willingness to work in other parts of the organisation where LE expertise is needed
