Job Description: 

Power BI Developer

  • Fixed term position (18 Months)
  • Be the Power BI specialist within the Finance team, driving data innovation to support decision-making across a leading public health service
  • Salary Packaging  5 weeks annual leave plus ADO. Hybrid Working.

 

Lead with purpose at one of Victoria’s most iconic health institutions. As the Power BI Developer at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of financial and operational reporting.

Embedded within the Finance team, you will lead the development of high-impact Power BI dashboards and data models that enable strategic insights and promote financial transparency across the organisation. Working in close collaboration with Finance leadership, Health Intelligence, and other key stakeholders, your expertise in data visualisation, DAX, Power Query, and SQL will support performance improvement, resource planning, and data literacy. This is a hands-on role that combines technical excellence with stakeholder engagement.

 

Your New Role

  • Lead the design, development, and optimisation of Power BI dashboards that drive financial transparency and support strategic decision-making across RMH.
  • Translate complex financial and operational data into actionable insights that inform planning, budgeting, and performance management.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance leadership, Health Intelligence, Business Intelligence, and IT to deliver scalable reporting solutions that align with RMH’s strategic objectives.
  • Champion data literacy by providing end user training, documentation, and support to empower teams to interpret and act on insights.
  • Modernise financial reporting by migrating legacy reports into centralised, visual solutions hosted on Power BI Report Server.
  • Embed “The Melbourne Way” into everyday operations — leading with kindness, putting people first, and excelling together.

 

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health, Accounting, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in Power BI report development and data visualisation, with strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query, and data modelling.
  • Skilled in SQL and transforming complex datasets into clear, reliable reporting tools.
  • A confident communicator with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders and understand financial KPIs.
  • A keen eye for accuracy, detail, and optimisation - ensuring high-quality, user focused reporting solutions.
  • You’re collaborative, solutions-focused, and passionate about building data capability across the organisation.
  • Demonstrated success in driving performance improvement and achieving financial, quality, and operational targets.
