The Department of Genomic Medicine and the Parkville Familial Cancer Centre (FCC) is a large, highly specialised service with over 25 Genetic Counsellors supporting individuals and families with genetic diagnoses and familial cancer risk. The team delivers Adult Genetics specialty clinics, comprehensive FCC risk-assessment and risk-management services for metropolitan and regional patients, and works in close collaboration with Melbourne Genomics and VCCC partners to advance clinical care, research and education. The service includes a well-established Genetic Counsellor workforce and Intake team, with coordinated leadership, clinical supervision, service development and quality assurance activities embedded across the department.

Your new role

• Lead, mentor and manage Grade 4, certified and associate Genetic Counsellors, as well as Intake Assistants
• Oversee high-quality clinical genetic counselling across Adult Genetics and FCC services
  Manage a clinical caseload and provide advanced, expert genetic counselling
• Coordinate clinics and support service development, quality assurance and innovation
• Provide supervision, training and professional development for students and staff
• Drive strategic initiatives and contribute to precinct-wide goals across the VCCC partnership
• Promote our service as a national leader in cancer genetic counselling

About you

You are an experienced and respected leader in Genetic Counselling with the ability to guide a diverse team, deliver high-quality care and contribute to strategic service growth. In addition, you posses

• Part 2 Certification in Genetic Counselling (HGSA) or recognised international equivalent
• Substantial post-qualification experience, ideally 5+ years
• Demonstrated experience managing clinical teams and leading service areas
• A strong track record in education, supervision, and quality improvement
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
