  • Ongoing Full Time position – 80 hours per fortnight with monthly ADO

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria’s leading public health services, renowned for excellence, innovation and compassionate care. We are currently seeking an experienced Cardiac Surgery Clinical Nurse Consultant to join our Surgical Services team.

This is a key leadership position supporting the cardiac surgical pathway from pre-admission through to discharge. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient flow, enhance care coordination, and strengthen safe, person-centred discharge planning across the continuum of care.

Your new role

  • Establish and maintain systems to support timely discharge planning and progression of care
  • Act as a specialist clinical resource across the cardiac surgical program
  • Lead and educate staff in best-practice models, tools and referral processes
  • Coordinate post-operative follow-up and transition planning for patients and families
  • Collaborate with NUMs, medical staff, Allied Health, Home First and external providers
  • Support and contribute to virtual ward and model-of-care development
  • Monitor KPIs, identify system barriers, and drive quality improvement initiatives

About you

  • Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Post-graduate qualifications in cardiac care
  • Significant clinical expertise in acute cardiac nursing (5 years preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across clinical and executive environments
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and autonomously in a senior role
