Senior Mental Health Clinician - Orygen IPU & Custodial FYMHS

Your new team:

Forming part of the Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.

 

Custodial FYMHS is in an exciting period of significant growth as a result of the Royal Commission and evolution of Victorian Mental Health Services. Our specialist multidisciplinary team provide enhanced services to young people in custody, with a focus on recovery-oriented care.
 

In this role, you will also work alongside our Orygen Inpatient Unit (IPU) team, located in Footscray on the Western Hospital site. The IPU provides targeted specialised service delivery for youth with acute and complex mental health and psychosocial needs.

Your new role: 

  • Work collaboratively across the IPU and Custodial FYMHS and provide a continuity of care for young people between the inpatient setting and custody.  
  • Complete assessments, develop treatment and care plans, provide appropriate discharge planning and age-appropriate referrals once the young people are ready to transition back into the community
  • Provide high level consultation, leadership and advice on complex clinical matters.
  • Help to develop the capabilities of the IPU team working with young people experiencing mental illness in the Youth Justice system by providing training and support, including high level consultation, leadership, supervision and professional development.


About You:

  • Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
  • Demonstrate experience in the application of clinical practice, particularly in youth mental health
  • Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is desirable.
