Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity:
Currently we are seeking a Psychiatrist for the role of:
Consultant Psychiatrist Refugee Access Service – 14 hours per fortnight for 6 months from September 2025 to March 2026
Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Psychiatrist with a passion for working with young people and families and have a demonstrated experience in the provision of secondary consultations, primary consultation and assessment, brief intervention and assisted referral.
The incumbent is therefore expected to have experience in working with children, young people and their families with a knowledge of trauma informed principles of care.
Further, they will demonstrate an understanding of clinical care needs that are responsive to the child or young person's developmental stage and presenting issues and informed by existing evidence and guidelines.

About the Role:
The Refugee Access Service is funded by DHHS to provide a new model of mental health triage, assessment, referral and treatment for newly-arrived refugee children and young people aged 0 – 24 years aimed at increasing access to mental health care.
The Refugee Access Service Consultant Psychiatrist is a key leadership position. At the Service level (PYHMWS and key stakeholders), the incumbent will provide leadership, and the provision of secondary consultation and capacity building opportunities across the full range of Acute, Sub-acute and Community subprograms. At the Team level, the incumbent will provide clinical governance, training and supervision for a multidisciplinary team of senior clinicians specialising in the provision of comprehensive triage, assessment and community linkages for clients referred to the service.
What You'll Do:
- Undertake or contribute to mental health and risk assessment, formulation, psychological treatment, crisis intervention, systems support for the young person, family/carers and wider system.
- Manage clinical risk and actively work toward implementing risk reduction strategies.
- Provide leadership and guidance for staff through active contribution in the development of policies and procedures, establishment of appropriate meeting structure, application of effective decision- making processes.
About You:
✔️ Registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
✔️ Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
✔️ Knowledge and experience in all aspects of psychiatry, and with substantial experience and expertise in clinical practice with young people (aged 12-25 years) experiencing mental disorders.
✔️ Demonstrated leadership and management skills and experience.
✔️ Skills in multidisciplinary work and the development of effective working relationships with consumers and carers.
✔️ Aptitude for and expertise in service development.
