Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity:

The Senior Mental Health Clinician will provide leadership to staff within the Hospital in the Home (HITH) program as part of a rotating roster. This role is key in delivering comprehensive care within the Hospital in the Home model.

HITH is an acute service providing early intervention to young people with severe and complex mental illness within the home environment.

 

Providing access to care 24­ hours, 7­ days per week by a multidisciplinary team, HITH ensures comprehensive, collaborative and coordinated mental health care to young people aged 12 to 25 and their families/carers in Melbourne's northwest and western suburbs.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced, kind and collaborative Senior Mental Health Clinician to support and lead the delivery of comprehensive acute and complex mental health care to young people and their families of the Hospital in the Home program.

About the Role:

The Senior Mental Health Clinician is a key position within the Hospital in the Home team. You will support and lead the delivery of comprehensive, acute and complex mental health care to young people and their families as part of the Hospital in the Home program.

The Senior Mental Health Clinician will demonstrate high standards of clinical care that are developmentally appropriate, responsive to the young person’s needs, and informed by current evidence and guidelines.

Deliver individually tailored services that comprise mental state assessment, risk assessment and management, discipline led interventions, medication, therapeutic interventions (CBT plus other targeted interventions), family inclusive practices, vocational and educational support, intensive outreach, and crisis support.

This role also includes providing clinical supervision (where appropriate), operation support to staff, participation in daily shift planning, and involvement in the recall system.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide advanced discipline skills and values to the multidisciplinary team and service through consultation, care planning and delivery.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in mental health assessment, risk assessment, intervention, least restrictive practice, and outcome improvement using evidence-based approaches.
  • Ensure effective management of clinical processes, including client allocation, critical incident responses, clinical reviews, discharges, and participation in business and team meetings, in consultation with the leadership team.
  • Timely completion of required documentation such as mental health assessments, individual service plans, crisis management plans, outcome measures, clinical notes, discharge summary and discipline reports. 
  • Proactively support shift leadership, team coordination, and unit management.
  • Provide supervision to AH2/RPN3, graduates, undergraduates, and potentially other disciplines within Hospital in the Home and wider service. 

About You:

You will be experienced in, and passionate about, providing acute, developmentally appropriate, and evidence-based mental health care to young people and their families in the community, including those requiring complex support through the Hospital in the Home program.

✔️ Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 4 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist Grade 3

✔️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)

✔️ Minimum 5 years’ experience in tertiary and/or youth mental health and a demonstrated ability to lead a clinical team, supervise mental health clinicians, and function both autonomously and collaboratively with other clinical and organisational leaders

✔️ Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills

✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care
