Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity:

The Senior Mental Health Clinician is a key position within the Helping Young People Early (HYPE) program. Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a committed Senior Mental Health Clinician to provide clinical leadership, supervision, and governance to a multidisciplinary team supporting young people with features of personality disorder and their families. This role delivers comprehensive mental health assessments and relationally informed psychological case management and interventions.

About the Role:

The Senior Mental Health Clinician holds a key leadership role in supporting the care and recovery of young people with complex mental health needs within the HYPE clinical stream at PYMHWS.

 

Work autonomously and in collaboration with the HYPE Stream Leader and Continuing Care Coordinator to plan, develop, and deliver services for young people and their families, which are consistent with best practice standards, evidence based care, and the strategic direction for PYMHWS.

 

Additionally, the Senior Mental Health Clinician will support all stream business including intake and client allocation, clinical governance and quality assurance processes, and training and professional development. The clinician may also provide support to other clinical streams in the service and/or hold a specialist portfolio.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and supervise a clinical sub-team within the HYPE program, actively participating in clinical governance and quality assurance processes
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health and risk assessments, develop formulations, individual service plans, and crisis management strategies
  • Deliver evidence based psychological treatments, crisis interventions, and family/system support tailored to young people with serious mental illness
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to foster a culture of caring, teamwork, and continuous service improvement
  • Engage in professional development through HYPE-specific and broader young mental health training initiatives, with opportunities to manage specialist portfolios or lead key program areas

About You:

A mental health clinician experienced in, and passionate about, early intervention and evidence based care for young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties including personality disorder.

✔️ Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 4 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist Grade 3

✔️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)

✔️ Minimum 5 years’ experience in tertiary and/or youth mental health and a demonstrated ability to lead a clinical team, supervise mental health clinicians, and function both autonomously and collaboratively with other clinical and organisational leaders

✔️ Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills

✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care
