The Opportunity:
The Senior Mental Health Clinician plays an integral part in providing clinical mental health care to young people referred for tertiary mental health support from the western and northwestern suburbs of Melbourne. Provide premier mental health services at the front end of acute youth mental health, working closely with the YAT Manager, Team Leaders, Consultant Psychiatrists, and YAT clinicians to provide the best evidenced based mental health care to young people referred. Be a leader and join a senior leadership group who provide clinical overnight and mentoring to YAT clinicians.

About the Role:
The Senior Mental Health Clinician performs all clinical duties to young people who are experiencing mental ill health requiring acute psychiatric care. Provide Senior Clinician leadership and support to the daily clinical operations within the PYMHWS YAT team.
Mentor YAT staff, providing guidance and clinical oversight to daily tasks, performing supervision to YAT staff to increase knowledge base and foster growth.
The PYMHWS YAT Team strives to provide the best evidence based, clinicial interevention which focuses on recovery, educating young people and their signficant others about mental health, minimising illness impact on the young person and focusing on safety planning and suicide prevention.
What You'll Do:
- Perform all mental health clinical duties of Triage, assessment, community treatment and crisis intervention.
- Participate in the YAT clinical handover meetings to ensure safe, timely, effective, person-centred clinical practice is provided and upheld.
- Safety planning and perform and implement clinical risk mitigation strategies.
- Assist YAT manager, team leaders and the other senior clinicians with daily clinical duties, clinical escalations, running of the daily YAT team huddle and psychiatric bed management.
- Work a rotating roster that includes daytime shifts, evening shifts and weekend shifts.
- Referring young person under the YAT teams care to the appropriate service that’s required for longer term follow up.
- Work with a young person’s family or significant others and provide psychoeducation in an early intervention framework.
About You:
An experienced mental health clinician who is passionate about early intervention, motivated and inspired to provide a high standard of care to young people referred for mental health support at PYMHWS. Team orientated person with strong values on fostering a positive team culture, committed to best practice standards.
✔️ Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 4 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist Grade 3
✔️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
✔️ Minimum 5 years’ experience in tertiary mental health and a demonstrated ability function both autonomously and collaboratively with other clinical and organisational leaders.
✔️ Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills
✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care
