The Opportunity:
The Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers. Join us in a newly established specialist role supporting with the expansion of the specialist team within Custodial FYMHS.

About the Role:
The Senior Career Specialist will contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a trauma-informed career support service for young people receiving Forensic Youth Mental Health support.
Along with supporting young people who are in custody, this role will also provide transition support for young people as they released into community, as this is a high-risk period. This position will hold a small case load, providing individualised support and secondary consultation to key-stakeholders/care team members.
The role will also focus on establishing close relationships with community and adult services to facilitate individualist vocational support needs. Training, mentoring and education to the FYMHS and wider care team regarding integrated and specialised vocational support options for young people with the youth justice domain is also an important part of this clinical specialist position.
The position is based across Parkville & Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precincts. As such, travel to the workplace destination can be included within the working hours.
What You'll Do:
- Provide support in establishment and evaluation of a comprehensive trauma-informed career consultation service within FYMHS
- Provide specialised, individual career consultation to support young people with mental illness who are referred to Custodial FYMHS to gain and maintain employment.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of career consultation with young people to enhance transition supports either to community or adult custody
- Provide support and education to employers in how to best support young people in the workplace and develop further opportunities for ongoing work placements.
About You:
✔️ Post-graduate qualification in Career Development, Career Education or relevant discipline (see position description for details)
✔️ Comprehensive experience providing career counselling and pathway planning to young people in youth mental health services
✔️ Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is desirable.
✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care
