Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

Our 20-bed Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) service provides short-term, recovery-focused residential support for young people aged 16–25.

Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a youth-focused and values-driven Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN3) to support young people in their mental health recovery through collaborative, strengths-based care.

As an RPN3, you will provide clinical leadership, mentor junior staff, and contribute to a therapeutic environment that fosters hope, autonomy, and engagement. You’ll work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centred care, early intervention, and safety planning. About the Role:

The Parkville YPARC is a pivotal sub-acute program supporting young people transition to the community from inpatient psychiatric care, or to intervene early and prevent further deterioration that may lead to inpatient psychiatric care. YPARC will also support young people with substance-use issues.

The Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN3) supports the provision of comprehensive clinical sub-acute mental health care for young people and families of the YPARC service.

The RPN3 works with young people from diverse backgrounds to provide sub-acute mental health care, including risk and mental state assessments, crisis management, psychoeducation, care coordination, and family/carer engagement.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide shift-by-shift leadership and act as nurse in charge
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based, recovery-focused care
  • Conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments and interventions
  • Support safe entry and exit transitions for young people and their families/carers

This is a key leadership role requiring high standards of clinical practice, responsiveness to developmental needs, and commitment to client-centred recovery.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Provide clinical leadership and support to a multidisciplinary team on shift
  • Deliver specialist nursing interventions including mental health, physical health, and risk management
  • Complete timely and comprehensive assessments, care plans, and documentation
  • Support professional development of staff through supervision, training, and secondary consultation
  • Promote inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care aligned with recovery principles
  • Contribute to service evaluation, quality improvement, and collaborative partnerships

About You:

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced mental health nurse who leads with curiosity, compassion, and clinical confidence.

✔️ Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, or Bachelor Degree in Nursing, with post-graduate qualification in Mental Health

✔️ Minimum 5 years postgraduate experience in mental health nursing, ideally with experience in shift leading/ANUM role

✔️ Demonstrated experience working in multidisciplinary teams within youth mental health settings

✔️ Advanced clinical skills in assessment, risk management, and evidence-based interventions

✔️ Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, youth-specific policy, and the mental health service system

✔️ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build effective stakeholder relationships

✔️ Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

✔️ Commitment to inclusive, ethical and youth-centred practice, including early intervention and harm reduction principles
