  • Ongoing position | Full-Time or Part-Time (minimum of 0.8 EFT)
  • Use your mental health nursing skills to support recovery in a new youth custodial unit
  • Based in Little River at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct, Mental Health Unit

Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

About the role:

The Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers. PYMHWS and Youth Justice staff work collaboratively to support young people voluntarily admitted to the new Mental Health Unit (MHU) at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct. Develop your clinical mental health skills within a first-of-its-kind voluntary eight bed forensic mental health unit.

  • Deliver evidence-based nursing care to young people in custody across a 24/7 rotating roster
  • Provide specialist mental health nursing interventions, and effectively manage critical incidents and emergency situations
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based interventions
  • Deliver mental health nursing care from a Strengths-Based, Recovery-Focused framework
  • Engage in 1:1 therapeutic work, clinical practice, advocacy, group facilitation, and mentorship/preceptorship

 

About you:

Formal Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications and registration (see position description for details)


Essential

  • 12+ months clinical experience in mental health, preferably in a youth mental health and/or forensic setting
  • Ability to deliver personalised psycho-social care beyond the traditional medical model to facilitate recovery of young people

 

Desirable

  • Evidence of current Continuing Professional Development in Nursing
  • Knowledge of current mental health approaches
  • Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system
