The Opportunity:
The Hospital Post Suicide Engagement service (HOPE) is an aftercare service initiative that has been codesigned with lived experience associates. The HOPE program aims to provide targeted wrap around supports to young people aged 12 to 25 years who have presented to an emergency department due to an acute onset of deliberate self-harm, suicidal thoughts and/or suicide attempt(s). HOPE service provides responsive clinical, lived experience and wellbeing psychosocial supports to eligible young people and their support network for a 3-month period
The HOPE Team is looking for a Mental Health Clinician to join a highly skilled group of dedicated youth mental health staff in providing premier youth mental health services to young people.

About the Role:
This Mental Health Clinician provides clinical acute mental health care to young people aged 12-25 years and families of the HOPE program at PYMHWS.
The incumbent will have demonstrated experience in the provision of brief intervention with young people from a range of backgrounds who are experiencing an acute onset of suicidal thoughts and/or attempt(s). You will work in a multidisciplinary team delivering evidenced-based interventions ensuring linkages are made with community supports post discharge.
What You'll Do:
- Complete timely mental health assessments, formulations, individual service plans and crisis management plans
- Manage and undertake mental health and risk assessments, crisis interventions, psychological treatments utilising a family inclusive framework
- Deliver high-quality, client-focused care aligned with best practice and PYMHWS values.
- Collaborate with young people, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ensure care is evidence-based, inclusive, and culturally appropriate for diverse communities.
- Liaise and partner with external services including AOD, Youth Justice, education and primary care.
- Contribute to a culture of caring, continuous improvement, teamwork, and high standards.
About You
A passionate and skilled mental health professional with experience supporting young people with an acute onset of deliberate self-harm, suicidal thoughts and/or suicide attempts. You bring a client-centred, family inclusive, evidence-based approach to care, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. You value inclusivity, cultural safety, and continuous learning, and you're committed to delivering responsive, high-quality mental health support. Your strong communication, clinical, and organisational skills enable you to build effective therapeutic relationships and navigate complex care systems with confidence and compassion.
✔️ Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 3 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist Grade 2
✔️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
✔️ Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the application of clinical practice in the mental health field and specifically with young people experiencing mental health disorders
✔️ Experience in clinical assessment, risk management, and delivering specialist interventions including for personality disorders
