The Opportunity:

To develop diagnostic assessment skills to assess Autism in a neuro-affirming multidisciplinary clinic that has been well established. It is a unique opportunity of blending knowledge and experience to provide treatment and care to young people and adults with neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health challenges.

Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an enthusiastic allied health professional who can work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, who has the flexibility to engage in range of clinical roles within the assessment clinic itself, including direct consumer assessment, partaking in clinical interviews with parents and caregivers, and synthesising, collating and formulating clinical information to reach a diagnostic outcome in a timely manner. Ideally, you would have skills or at least an interest in developing formal report writing skills, with the support of senior, and experienced clinicians. Already being ADOS trained, would be ideal.

About the Role:

In this 0.2 EFT role, you will deliver Autism assessments within a dedicated one-day-per-week clinic. The service supports young people aged 12 to 25 across Melbourne’s northern and western regions.

Working collaboratively with the Headspace Autism Assessment Team and the PYMHWS Neurodevelopmental Team, you will be well supported to deliver high-quality, neuro-affirming assessments. You will be part of a small, multidisciplinary team of four allied health professionals, contributing to a dynamic and responsive assessment service.

This role offers a unique opportunity to meet growing consumer demand for Autism assessments within a targeted youth cohort. Our neuro-affirming approach provides an excellent foundation for developing expertise in comprehensive, multidisciplinary Autism assessment for young people.

You will complete Autism assessments in a 1 day per week clinic in your 0.2 EFT role. Providing assessments to young people in Melbourne’s north and west aged 12 to 25 years. Supported by the Headspace Autism assessment Team and PYMHWS Neurodevelopmental Team, you will be well placed to provide dynamic Autism assessments, within a small team of 4 allied health professionals, including yourself. Providing this assessment service to this targeted cohort is a unique opportunity to respond to consumer demand for Autism assessments. Our neuro-affirming service is the best place to start your journey in providing comprehensive multidisciplinary Autism assessments to young people in need.

What You'll Do:

  • Support this established service and maintain the Autism assessment clinic for Headspace
  • Work effectively and in a timely manner to provide best clinical care to young people requiring an Autism assessment
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with your allied health colleagues to provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic formulation and clinical outcomes that respond to the needs of the consumer

About You:

✔️ At least 2-4 years of post graduate experience as an allied health clinician

✔️ A keen interest or experience in working with consumers who have neurodevelopmental conditions, namely Autism, and/or experience in youth mental health or paediatrics

✔️ Developing skills in report writing and an interest in developing these skills further within a multidisciplinary assessment model

✔️ Demonstratable skills in critical thinking and formulation
