Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. 

PYMHWS is leading a bold and values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne’s north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed, and grounded in lived experience. About the Role:

The Director Operations Community Services is a key senior leadership role responsible for leading community clinical operations and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and youth-centred mental health care for young people aged 12–25 and their family, carers and kin. Working closely with clinical and operational leaders, the role drives service excellence, innovation and continuous improvement across a diverse portfolio of community services.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the operational delivery of community mental health services to ensure safe, high-quality, youth and family centred care across multiple programs and sites
  • Oversee service performance, access and flow, ensuring timely responses to demand and alignment with clinical priorities
  • Work with clinical leaders to implement evidence-based models of care and drive continuous service improvement
  • Manage workforce planning, operational resources and budgets to support effective and sustainable service delivery
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support integrated care pathways and improve outcomes for young people and families

About You:

The ideal candidate is an experienced and values-driven senior leader who thrives in complex health environments and is passionate about improving outcomes for young people and their families.

✔️ Experience in senior operational leadership within mental health settings, ideally across multidisciplinary teams

✔️ Strong knowledge of service delivery, clinical operations, and health system performance frameworks

✔️ Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to build, develop and support high-performing teams

✔️ Demonstrated experience in quality, safety, risk management and continuous improvement processes

✔️ Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across clinical and operational areas

✔️ Commitment to youth and family-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented models of care

✔️ Ability to think strategically while managing competing operational priorities in a fast-paced environment

✔️Genuine passion for improving mental health outcomes for young people and contributing to system-wide service innovation
