Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.
PYMHWS is leading a bold and values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne’s north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed, and grounded in lived experience. The Opportunity:
We are seeking our inaugural Director Family Lived Experience to join us at PYMHWS to help connect us to the voice of young people and ensure we are responsive to their needs and those of their families, carers, supporters and kin.
Join us to be the inaugural Director - Family Lived Experience, guiding the service to ensure a youth lived experience voice is heard, listened to and contributing to change. We are seeking an experienced lived experience leader to provide strategic and discipline specific guidance in the Senior Leadership Team. If you have had experience working in the mental health system at a peer worker and consultant level and are looking to make a higher level contribution with a strategic and growth mindset, we want to hear from you.
Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an energetic, passionate, visionary and experienced lived experience leader to lead the delivery of lived experience strategy, the expansion and embedding of the workforce and participation at all levels across the service.

About the Role:
The Director Family Lived Experience will oversee Lived Experience workforce and service delivery programs, focusing on strategic thinking, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They will ensure the workforce is capable, well supported, and focused on holding lived experience values and principles at the heart of all decision making and direction. This is a unique opportunity in an inaugural role to help shape the way PYMHWS deeply embeds a lived experience voice.
What You'll Do:
- Guide the organisation with a strong vision about how to ensure a lived experience youth voice is heard
- Support the growing lived experience workforce across the whole organisation
- Collaborate with a group of Discipline Seniors who all contribute to supporting as of all disciplines to grow and learn at PYMHWS
- Work alongside the Director Family Lived Experience to drive and support co-creation, co-production and participation at all levels of the service
About You:
We are seeking an energised person who has been through, and worked in, the mental health system, who feels passionately about helping guide a youth mental health service.
✔️ Experience as a peer worker and consultant and be confident in guiding strategy
✔️ Wonderful collaborator who strongly believes that every discipline contributes to providing evidenced based care to young people and their carers, family, supporters and kin.
✔️ Excellent communication skills and can work with people at all levels.
✔️ Value respectful ways of working and strive toward contributing to a great culture in the workplace.
