Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity:
This is a rare, generational opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to help shape a groundbreaking statewide forensic youth mental health service.
The Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) forms part of the specialist clinical programs of PYMHWS. FYMHS aims to deliver effective early treatment of mental ill health and to improve health and social outcomes for young people in, or at risk of entering, the youth justice system.
Within the FYMHS Team, the role will provide medical care and supervision of a multidisciplinary team specialising in the provision of evidence-based interventions including diagnostic assessments, targeted interventions and supporting a new lived experience and carer lived experience workforce embedded within the clinical program.
As the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide specialist forensic youth psychiatric expertise through consultation, assessment, formulation and treatment planning for young people with complex mental health, neurodevelopmental and trauma-related presentations. You will support multidisciplinary teams, contribute to clinical leadership and governance, and play a key role in strengthening system capability and coordinated care.

What You'll Do:
Within the FYMHS Team, the role will provide medical care and supervision of a multidisciplinary team specialising in the provision of a evidence based interventions including diagnostic assessments, targeted interventions and supporting a new lived experience and carer lived experience workforce embedded within the clinical program.
To work closely with the FYMHS Stream Leadership to provide a high level of leadership, governance and expertise to PYMHWS Custodial FYMHS. This includes oversight of the care delivered at the two 4-bed mental health units at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Facility.
To provide expert clinical leadership to the custodial clinical teams, including maintaining high clinical standards, team professional development and supervision of team registrars and other staff as needed.
To provide expert clinical leadership in the engagement of key stakeholders in the custodial environment.
To provide leadership more generally across PYMHWS by participating as requested in quality and risk, service development and innovation meetings as requested.
To provide supervision to both RANZCP Accredited Psychiatry Registrars and PGY2 doctors
To participate in the PYHMWS on call roster 5-6 weeks per calendar year
To participate in the PYMWS Medical Education and Training Program
About You:
You are a skilled and thoughtful Consultant Psychiatrist with a strong interest in forensic and child and adolescent mental health, committed to improving outcomes for young people with complex needs.
· Fellowship of RANZCP (FRANZCP) and AHPRA specialist registration
· Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience in all aspects of psychiatry, and with substantial experience in clinical practice with young people (aged 12-25 years) experiencing mental disorders.
· Ability to demonstrate experience/ interest in working in a Forensic setting.
· Strong expertise in complex assessment, formulation and risk management
· Experience working within multidisciplinary and cross-sector systems
· Excellent consultation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
· Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership and supervision
· Commitment to trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate care
· Interest in service development, teaching and system capacity building
· Knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health Wellbeing Act 2022.
· A Working with Children check
· PYHMWS will organise a Police Check prior to commencement of employment
· A current Victorian Driving license
