Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity:

The Helping Young People Early (HYPE) stream provides an evidence-based early intervention service for young people experiencing issues associated with severe personality disorder and/or other co-occurring mental health difficulties. The HYPE Stream aims to increase adaptive relationships, improve educational and vocational functioning, reduce the psychopathology, and promote safety health and wellbeing.

The Clinical Stream Lead - HYPE is a senior leadership role within PYMHWS, responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality, evidence based clinical care to young people and their families/carers. This will occur via clinical leadership, management, training and supervision of multidisciplinary teams specialising in the provision of Relational Clinical Care with the HYPE Clinical Stream.

About the Role:

The Clinical Stream Lead – HYPE will have expert knowledge of diagnostic assessment and evidence-based interventions for the cohort of young people and their families accessing the HYPE Clinical Stream. They are responsible for developing, translating and operationalising assessment and interventions to contribute to service development, delivery of training, and development and review of models of care at a local, national and international level.

The Clinical Stream Lead will have extensive training in and experience in using CAT (preferably at CAT Practitioner level).

At the Service level, the Clinical Stream Lead will provide leadership across the full range of Acute, Sub-acute and Community subprograms. At the Community Team level, provide management, training and supervision of a multidisciplinary team specialising in the provision of comprehensive diagnostic assessments, time limited targeted interventions and secondary consultation pertaining to personality disorder.

Working collaboratively with internal leaders and external partners, the Clinical Stream Lead – HYPE ensures alignment with PYMHWS’ strategic vision, leads clinical operations, and supports research initiatives.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and oversee delivery of high-quality, evidence based clinical care in HYPE for young people and their families across acute, sub-acute and community settings.
  • Provide senior clinical leadership, management, training and supervision to multidisciplinary teams using the HYPE model of Relational Clinical Care and CAT informed practice.
  • Contribute to service development through the design, implementation and review of diagnostic assessments, interventions, and models of care at local, national and international levels.
  • Collaborate with internal leaders and external partners to align clinical operations with PYMHWS strategy, support research and strengthen partnerships.
  • Ensure clinical excellent through quality improvement, risk management, policy development and active contribution to research, education and training.

About You:

A senior mental health clinician with substantial experience working with young people aged 12 – 25 and their families, delivering expert diagnostic assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions. You bring advanced knowledge of early intervention, risk assessment and client-centred care planning, alongside a strong understanding of clinical governance. You are a confident and collaborative leader, skilled in developing and managing multidisciplinary teams, providing high-quality supervision and training, and engaged in service development and the translation of research evidence and into innovative clinical practice. You may have experience with the HYPE model of Relational Clinical Care and as a Cognitive Analytic Therapy practitioner.

  • Multidisciplinary role open to Grade 6 Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Grade 5 Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists or Occupational Therapists (must hold relevant degree, registration and/or membership as per attached Position Description)
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in clinical practice within the mental health field, including young people experiencing mental health disorders
  • A proven ability to manage and lead a multidisciplinary team: manage staff resources and ensure high standards of practice through staff supervision, clinical review, training and professional development activities
  • Substantial experience in the application of clinical practice in the mental health field and proven expertise with young people
