Provide clinical leadership and specialist support to a Multidisciplinary Team working with young people experiencing severe mood disorders, OCD, and complex anxiety.

The Opportunity:

The Clinical Specialist is a key position within PYWMHS supporting a sub-team within the Youth Mood Clinic (YMC) program. 

 

The Clinical Specialist provides clinical leadership, mentoring, supervision, and training to a multidisciplinary team within the YMC, supporting young people with severe mood disorders, bipolar without psychotic features, and complex co-morbidities such as OCD and severe anxiety disorders.

About the Role:

The Clinical Specialist in the Youth Mood Stream – Region A will specifically support the YMC clinicians with the implementation of one or more specialist clinical interventions within the mental health field, such as psychological, family, domestic violence, Alcohol and Drug, Physical Health, Ultra-High Risk for psychosis, Neurodevelopmental and Eating Disorders interventions, etc. This will occur at a primary, secondary and tertiary level, including, direct clinical work with clients and families, supervision and mentoring of clinicians, and staff education and training.

In addition, the incumbent may be required to provide interventions over a number of sites. Staff may be required to work from Parkville, Footscray, Wyndham, Sunshine, Melton, or other sites within the catchment. When required to travel to other service locations a workplace vehicle and travel time is included within working hours.

 

What You'll Do:                                                 

  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and training across specialist interventions.
  • Support team leaders with clinical operations, including allocation, reviews, and incident response.
  • Contribute to strategic service model development and project work in partnership with leadership and research.
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care, including case management, assessments, and interventions.
  • Conduct risk assessments, psychological treatment, crisis response, and family/system support.
  • Ensure timely, accurate clinical documentation and adherence to care standards.
  • Lead or attend clinical review meetings and support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and manage clinical risk proactively.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and OHS policies and procedures.

 


About You:

A mental health clinician who is passionate about early intervention and evidence-based care for young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties including personality disorders.

️ Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 5 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist Grade 4

️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)

️ Minimum experience in accordance with EBA requirements for this senior clinical position, preferably including a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the application of clinical practice in the mental health field and specifically with young people experiencing mental health disorders.

✔️ Experience in clinical assessment, risk management, and delivering specialist interventions for complex depression and anxiety

✔️ Background in team support and supporting service development

✔️ Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills

✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care

✔️ Experience and/or interest in OCD and/or Bipolar Disorder is highly desired
