The Opportunity:

The Family Work Clinical Specialist – Early Psychosis is a key leadership position within the Early Psychosis Stream and is responsible for the development and implementation of Family Inclusive Models of Practice and specialist family-focused interventions. In collaboration with the Early Psychosis leadership group, they will develop clinical policy, guidelines and processes that support the delivery of family inclusive practices.

About the Role:

The Family Work Clinical Specialist in collaboration with the PYMHWS Family Work Lead is responsible for the translation of family inclusive clinical service provision with learning from clinical, research, training and communication programs, as well as other sources of evidence-based practice.

The Family Work Clinical Specialist will be actively involved in the strategic development and transformation of PYMHWS services, including establishing pathways for young people aged 12-25 years old and their families to receive care across the continuum of presentations from early in the course of illness to longer term recovery from severe illness and complex comorbidity. These pathways will involve the integration of specialist community care with existing clinical services and inpatient care, ensuring access to primary, secondary and tertiary consultation regarding assessment and early intervention for psychosis. Furthermore, the Family Work Clinical Specialist will also contribute specialist knowledge to future Early Psychosis clinical initiatives.

The Family Work Clinical Specialist will strengthen the capacity and capability of the Early Psychosis workforce to work with families through supervision, training and mentoring of specialist senior staff, as well as in collaboration with the PYMHWS Family Work Lead contribute to service-wide professional development activities.

The Family Work Clinical Specialist will support the implementation of recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victorian Mental Health Services as well as ensuring that specialist community practice is consistent with Victoria’s new Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.

What You'll Do:

• Provide strong clinical leadership across the Early Psychosis Stream, delivering supervision, mentoring, education and training with a focus on specialist family-inclusive interventions.
• Deliver high-quality clinical care in family work including parent and family therapy.
• Work closely with the PYMHWS Family Work Lead in the development and implementation of the PYMHWS Family Work Model of Care, embedding consistent, evidence-based family-inclusive practice across the service.
• Support the Early Psychosis Stream Leader in strategic growth, including regional expansion, adapting the model for younger clients (12–14 years), and strengthening service delivery frameworks.

About You:

You will be experienced in, and passionate about, early intervention and evidence based care for young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties including those at ultra-high risk for psychosis and/or with a first episode psychosis.

✔️ Eligible disciplines: Grade 5 RPN, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker / Grade 4 Psychologist (Clinical, Neuro or Forensic) 

✔️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)

✔️ Masters in in Family/Systems Therapy

✔️ Minimum 7 years’ experience in tertiary and/or youth mental health and a demonstrated ability to lead a clinical team, supervise mental health clinicians, and function both autonomously and collaboratively with other clinical and organisational leaders

✔️ Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills

✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care
