About Us:
Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.
PYMHWS is leading a bold and values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne’s north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed, and grounded in lived experience. The Opportunity:
This identified role will collaborate with staff across PYMWHS outpatient and inpatient services and work directly with young people and families. You will provide specialist cultural consultation to other mental health professionals, and you will provide a point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families navigating the mental health system.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a committed Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander professional, who wants to promote cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people accessing mental healthcare, and their families.

About the Role:
This role is part of a team of identified staff, who provide Aboriginal mental health liaison across PYMHWS community teams at Parkville, Sunshine and Werribee, and to PYMWHS acute services in Spotswood and Footscray.
What You'll Do:
You will
- Work with other staff at PYMHWS to promote improve cultural safety
- Advocate for specific cultural rights of individual young people and their families
- Be a point of contact for young people and families as they engage with mental health assessment and care
- Work with other identified staff to develop and implement strategies to improve cultural safety in mental healthcare
- Promote partnership between PYMWHS and ACCOs and ACCHOs across Melbourne’s northwest and west, to improve pathways between services
About You:
You will be passionate about promoting cultural responsiveness in mental healthcare, and about promoting recovery, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families accessing mental healthcare
