Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is a new, dedicated public youth mental health service and is the first of its kind in Australia. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team.

The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System highlighted critical challenges facing young people with mental health issues in Victoria. As a result of several recommendations, Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) was established in July 2024 and became operational on 1st of July 2025. PYMHWS is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. PYMHWS is leading a bold and values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne’s north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, informed by the latest evidence, and grounded in lived experience. Our service model is shaped by the voices of young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin, and their communities, and is underpinned by a commitment to safety, equity, innovation, continuous learning, and the generation of new knowledge.
Unit Description:
The Clinical Director – Acute and Admitted Care, and FYMHS, is a key medical leadership position responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, effective, timely and evidence-based clinical care across Acute and Admitted Care, and Forensic care services, including the Inpatient Unit, Hospital in the Home, Orygen Recovery, Youth Access Team (YAT), and Forensic Youth Mental Health Services (FYMHS). The role promotes the principles of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Victoria) including supported decision-making, person-centered care, and the rights and dignity of young people and their families. About the role:
- The Clinical Director – Acute and Admitted Care, and FYMHS, is a key medical leadership position responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, effective, timely and evidence-based clinical care across Acute and Admitted Care, and Forensic care services, including the Inpatient Unit, Hospital in the Home, Orygen Recovery (currently under the governance of Orygen and may transfer to PYMHWS at a future stage), Youth Access Team (YAT), and Forensic Youth Mental Health Services (FYMHS). The role promotes the principles of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Victoria) including supported decision-making, person-centered care, and the rights and dignity of young people and their families.
- This role provides strategic and clinical leadership in partnership with the Medical Director and promotes excellence in clinical care, service innovation, research, and workforce development.
- This role would be suited to a General, Youth or Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who is interested in leadership, specific Forensic experience is desired but not mandatory.
About You:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP)
- Compliance with credentialing requirements for senior medical staff.
- Demonstrated significant clinical leadership experience in youth mental health and acute, admitted or forensic mental health settings
- High level communication, conflict resolution and and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven ability to lead inclusive, multidisciplinary teams
- Sound knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement systems, and mental health legislation
- Proven ability to supervise and mentor consultants, registrars and clinicians
- Strong commitment to evidence-based practice, academic inquiry and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Understanding of and ability to implement and work in the principles and expectations of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Victoria).
