Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Clinician to provide advanced assessment, treatment, clinical coordination and leadership across both our Inpatient Unit and Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service. In this unique role, you will support young people with complex needs, strengthen workforce capability, and ensure safe, coordinated transitions between inpatient care and Youth Justice settings.

About the Role:

The Senior Mental Health Clinician (Custodial FYMHS/IPU) works across both our Inpatient Unit and Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service, providing advanced clinical expertise for young people with complex and acute mental health needs. The role ensures safe, coordinated transitions between inpatient care and Youth Justice settings, while strengthening workforce capability through supervision, consultation and leadership.

What You’ll Do:

  • Deliver high-quality assessment, formulation, treatment and risk planning for young people across inpatient and custodial settings.
  • Provide specialist consultation, training, and supervision to build staff capability and confidence.
  • Lead coordinated transition planning and collaborate with Youth Justice, families and community services to support continuity of care.

About You:

You are an experienced and confident Senior Mental Health Clinician with advanced skills in assessment, formulation, intervention and risk management, alongside the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. You excel in engaging young people, families and diverse stakeholders, and are comfortable navigating inpatient, custodial or forensic environments.

You are a reflective practitioner who values supervision, continuous learning and evidence-based care, and you enjoy building capability in others through coaching, consultation and leadership.

✔️ Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 4 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist Grade 3

✔️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)

✔️ Minimum 5 years’ experience in tertiary and/or youth mental health and a demonstrated ability to supervise mental health clinicians, and function both autonomously and collaboratively with other clinical and organisational leaders

✔️ A sound knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant community based forensic services

✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care
