- Provide evidence-based, family-focused mental health care and interventions to young people aged 12–25 experiencing severe mood, anxiety, OCD, and complex co-morbid mental health challenges, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Manage a clinical caseload with responsibilities including family and systems assessments, treatment planning, family consultations, outreach, and collaboration with external agencies and community services.
- Join a dynamic and expanding public mental health service dedicated to youth across multiple sites in Victoria, committed to accessible, culturally safe, and trauma-informed car
While this position is primarily based at the Sunshine site, outreach and travel to the Melton (and potentially other locations) will be required as the service expands.

About the Role:
The Senior Family Work Clinician provides expert clinical care and coordination within the Youth Mood Clinic (YMC), supporting young people aged 12–25 with severe mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, and complex co-morbidities. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, this role focuses on delivering family-inclusive, evidence-based interventions that support both young people and their families/carers.
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct timely family and mental health assessments, develop treatment plans, provide crisis interventions, and complete clinical documentation in line with PYMHWS standards.
- Deliver high-quality, family-focused care aligned with best practice and PYMHWS values.
- Build capacity within the team for integrated family-inclusive care across complex mental health presentations.
- Attend and actively contribute to clinical review meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions.
- Collaborate closely with young people, families, carers, and clinicians to enhance engagement and treatment outcomes.
- Work within scope of practice and seek support or supervision when required.
- Manage clinical risk related to young people and their families/carers, implementing effective harm reduction strategies.
- Ensure all care is evidence-based, culturally safe, trauma-informed, and inclusive of diverse family backgrounds, including LGBTQI+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Advocate for the safety, wellbeing, and rights of young people and their families, consistent with organisational values.
- Establish and maintain effective partnerships with external services, including Drug and Alcohol, Youth Justice, and primary care providers, to support holistic family engagement.
- Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and quality improvement policies, promptly reporting risks or incidents.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture that promotes learning, continuous improvement, and excellence in family-inclusive practice.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, training, and participate in regular performance reviews.
- Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives, promoting safe work practices across all service sites.
About You:
You are a passionate and skilled mental health professional with extensive experience supporting families and carers of young people experiencing complex mood, anxiety, and co-morbid mental health disorders. You bring a family-centred, evidence-based approach to care and can work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. You are committed to inclusivity, cultural safety, and continuous professional development. Your strong communication, clinical, and organisational skills enable you to build effective therapeutic relationships with young people and their families, while confidently navigating complex care systems with compassion and respect.
